Assistant Specialist position 2019-07

The Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics has a full-time Assistant Specialist position available in the area of statistical machine learning, in particular deep learning and deep reinforcement learning, to investigate both theoretical questions as well as applications in the natural sciences, in particular in physics, chemistry, and biology. Necessary qualifications include a PhD in computer science with additional expertise in mathematics as well as at least one, and preferably two, years of work in the fields of application. We are particularly interested in candidates who have prior experience in developing and applying deep learning methods for the analysis of high-throughput omic data (e.g. transcriptomic, metabolomic).

A strong background in software development and a significant portfolio of journal publications are also required, together with expertise in deep learning and object-oriented software engineering. The ideal candidate must have expertise in UNIX, deep learning software libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, and GPU computing.

Strong mathematical skills are required. Strong software experience including both numerical and symbolic programming and computer algebra is preferred.

Current graduate students who meet all other requirements but have not yet completed their Ph.D. degree are welcome to apply. However, any offer made will be contingent upon successful completion of the degree.

The salary range for this position will be commensurate with training and experience. Anticipated start date will be October 1, 2019 for an initial appointment period of 10 months, renewable dependent upon extramural funding.
