Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics Assistant Project Scientist Position University of California, Irvine
The laboratory of Prof. P. Baldi in the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics is looking for a candidate to develop the storage, management, and analysis pipeline for all the data produced by the UCI Genomics High-Throughput Facility, including full human genomes. The DNA sequencers in the facility run by Prof. Suzanne Sandmeyer in the UCI School of Medicine produce very large amounts of data on a daily basis. The data must be processed, stored, and analyzed. In addition, the candidate will collaborate with other scientists on projects in genomics and proteomics in order to better understand diseases, such as cancer, and their genetic components. The candidate will also conduct research in machine learning and protein structure/function prediction.
Requirements - The minimum requirement for this position is a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, with at least two years of research experience, and good track record of publication in the scientific literature. The candidate must be proficient with Unix/Linux Operating Systems and all the main modern programming languages (Java, C/C++, and Python).
Salary is commensurate with training and experience. The initial appointment will be for a year, with extension to further years dependent in part on the availability of extra-mural funding.
