The NIH/NLM-funded
UCI Biomedical Informatics Training Program (BIT) provides
graduate education to students and postdoctoral fellows in either the
computational or life sciences. This training is designed to
facilitate collaborations at a scholarly level with professionals in
the cross-discipline. The program coordinates with existing
graduate degree programs in the Schools of Information and Computer
Sciences (ICS), Biological Sciences/Medicine,
Physical Sciences, and Engineering at UC Irvine.
BIT training faculty from
each of these five schools participate in the Program. Research
projects are performed under the mentorship of both a life and a
computational scientist, often in collaboration with another student
or fellow in the cross-discipline. These collaborations help
overcome language and cultural barriers that often impede
interdisciplinary research efforts.
