Marty Brandon’s project involves designing and building a
bioinformatics system capable of predicting genetic diseases. This
smart system will use common types of clinical data, such as DNA
sequence and assay results, and a combination of stored data and
intelligent agents to assess a likely diagnosis for an individual.
While the scope of diseases under consideration will be restricted
initially to those effected by changes in mitochondrial DNA, it
is hoped that this system will serve as a model that might be generalized
to other types of diseases and regions of the human genome.
