The chemical sciences, in tandem with computational and other interdisciplinary efforts, are playing a key role in furthering our understanding of molecular biology, with important implications for drug discovery.  The 2004 UC Irvine Chemical Biology Symposium, continuing the momentum of the past two Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics symposia, will explore the current state of these advances, fostering regional research- and application-based Life Science initiatives.

Host James Nowick, Professor of Chemistry at UC Irvine, invites researchers and industry leaders to join in a day-long interdisciplinary exploration of topics ranging from protein structure to drug design.  Speakers include Steven Bender of Pfizer, Robert Burk of Allergan, Jonathan Ellman of UC Berkeley, Larry Overman of UC Irvine, and Pim Stemmer of Avidia Research Institute.

The event will culminate in a reception and poster session fostering one-on-one discussions expected to lead to collaborative projects and new technologies.
