POSITION DESCRIPTION
The “Mathematical AI for Science” group in the Computer Science Department, and the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics, at the University of California, Irvine, seeks a postdoctoral scholar.

Primary project area:
Machine-learning and AI based model reduction methods for stochastic, spatial, structural models of cytoskeleton in synapses and in plant cells. This work will be in collaboration with researchers in neurobiology and in plant science.

Secondary project areas:
Potential overlap with other scientific applications of quantitative graph dynamics and machine-learned model reduction will be explored.

Requirements:

  • PhD in physics, quantitative neurobiology, or related discipline.
  • Strong skills in applied mathematics.
  • Knowledge of current methods in physics-informed machine learning, including current software.
  • Knowledge of and experience with numerical simulation methods, including solution of partial differential equations and/or stochastic biochemical network models.
  • Experience with current computational science software, including distributed parallelism.
  • Knowledge of graph algorithms.
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of and fluency with quantum field theory and/or the Doi-Peliti formalism of classical nonequilibrium statistical mechanics.

QUALIFICATIONS
