POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics, at the University of California, Irvine, is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral scholar to join Professor Jing Zhang’s lab to study gene regulation and dysregulation in brain disorders. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience and expertise relevant to AI based model on single cell genomics data, including but not limited to snRNA-seq, snATAC-seq, and spatial transcriptomics.

The role requires the candidate to have the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Postdoctoral scholar will join a highly collaborative and innovative research group whose mission is to improve mental health through the integration of machine learning, neuroscience and sequencing tools, to advance knowledge in these fields, and to educate the next generation of leaders in biomedical science.

A Postdoctoral Scholar appointment requires a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.) or the foreign equivalent. Applicants must have a proven track record of research. Positions are dependent on extramural funding and research contracts of individual Principal Investigator.

The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at other institutions. Salary will be commensurate with degree and experience. Initial appointment is for one year and renewal is based on availability of support and need.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational biology or related discipline.
  • Strong skills in machine learning.
  • Knowledge of single cell sequencing data analysis, including current software.
  • Experience with current single cell analysis software.
  • Knowledge of graph algorithms.
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.

Desired:

  • Experience with large-scale single cell data analysis.
